Upon successful completion of the Certified Industrial Hygiene Technician (CIHT) course, participants will be able to:
Understand the principles and practices of industrial hygiene and occupational health.
Identify chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards commonly found in the workplace.
Conduct basic workplace exposure assessments and recognize potential occupational health risks.
Apply air sampling techniques and exposure monitoring methods to evaluate employee exposure to hazardous substances.
Understand the selection and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection programs.
Recommend engineering controls, administrative controls, and safe work practices to minimize workplace exposures.
Recognize the importance of ventilation systems, hazard communication, and industrial hygiene monitoring programs.
Support OSHA compliance initiatives related to occupational health, workplace exposure control, and employee safety.
Maintain accurate industrial hygiene records, sampling documentation, and inspection reports.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of workplace occupational health and industrial hygiene programs.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry or physics OR a bachelor’s degree in a closely related biological or physical science from an accredited college or university. Three (3) years of acceptable work experience may be substituted for each year of an academic degree program (i.e., Twelve years of experience is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree).
Work Experience:
Two years (2) of experience where at least 30% of your work is directly related to working in safety, industrial hygiene, or the environment is performed in this field. Education cannot be substituted for work experience. Please note: This requirement is in addition to the expertise used instead of education.
The Certified Industrial Hygiene Technician course is designed for entry level industrial hygienists and technicians who are new to the field and want to gain fundamental knowledge. Recent graduates with backgrounds in occupational health, environmental science, or engineering will also benefit from this course, as well as professionals transitioning into industrial hygiene from other fields.
Safety and health professionals such as HSE officers, HSE engineers, safety supervisors, safety managers, occupational health and safety professionals, and environmental health specialists who want to expand their knowledge in industrial hygiene are also suitable for this course.
